History of The Academic Honor Card

The Academic
Honor Card Program was started in the Spring of 1988. The program
was the "Brain Child" of the Education Committee of the Farmers Branch
Chamber of Commerce. The first card was distributed to 3200 secondary
students in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District,
Carrollton, Texas. There were 25 businesses involved as the program was
kicked off. Some of those charter businesses that are still involved
are:
* Dr. Charles R. Medearis, D.D.S.
* DJ's Sporting Goods
* Marshall's Bar-B-Q
* Turner Hardware
* University of North Texas
The following year, 1989, the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce
joined the program. |
INITIAL CORPORATE SPONSORS
For several years,
corporate sponsors funded the expense of the program. Some of these
Corporate Sponsors were:
* Dallas Semiconductor
* Applied Data Science
* IBM
* Town North National Bank |

Through the years, the Academic Honor Card Program has grown to include
every
public, private and parochial school in this immediate geographic
area. Currently the card is distributed to 18,350 Middle School, High
School, and College students. There are over 100 participating
businesses. |
